Finding a good Chinese restaurant is never easy. In many of them you’ll find the same quality as a takeaway but for more money. For us Greedies, a Chinese restaurant has to have the perfect balance between a nice atmosphere and really good food.
We have definitely found both at the Feng Shang Princess, a great big boat moored up on the canal next to Regent’s Park. Out of the four times that we’ve been, only once were we a little disappointed by the food, maybe the head chef was ill.
On our last visit the atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious. Our waiter was very friendly and we even chatted about the few places we visited last September in China and he gave us some advice for our next trip.
Now the food. There are plenty of a la carte choices but there are also two great set menus, cleverly named Set Menu A and Set Menu B. We plumped for A, and at £28.80 it’s not cheap for Chinese but the quality of the food is high. This menu consists of a great mix of traditional hors d’oeuvres followed by one of our favorite Chinese dishes – Crispy Aromatic duck served with pancakes, yum!
Next up comes two meat mains – sweet and sour chicken and beef with black bean sauce – egg fried rice and some vegetables to help you with your five a day.
We have yet to samples the desserts because frankly, after oodles of rice, pancakes, prawns and seaweed, one thing you will not leave this restaurant feeling is hungry.
